The Gardena Police Foundation provides two types of Scholarships annually:

Annual College Scholarship to Graduating High School Seniors

In 2014, the Gardena Police Foundation wanted to extend its impact on the community by providing educational scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the local high schools.  As such, the Foundation chooses students each year to receive a scholarship.  Applicants write a 2-page essay on a prompt provided by the Foundation and submit it along with an application form and proof of acceptance to college.

The winners are selected by a Committee and receive the first installment of their scholarship at an Awards Luncheon held in April each year.

In previous years, scholarship recipients were eligible for scholarships up to $4,000 each. Beginning in 2023, scholarship recipients are eligible to receive a scholarship up to $8000. Additionally, recipients have the opportunity to make internship connections and receive additional resources, as available.

Gardena Explorer Educational Scholarships

The Foundation awards two educational scholarships to two members of the Gardena Police Explorers.  Explorers write an essay and the winning essay is selected by a team of law enforcement personnel.

The Police Explorer Program is a program open to all youth from the community ranging from 14 to 21 years in age. The Police Explorer Program is sanctioned by Learning for Life, and is maintained and staffed by members of the Gardena Police Department. It is strictly a volunteer program that gives service to the Police Department and the community.

The Explorer Program is a structured program that gives young men and women the academic and technical training needed to become future Law Enforcement Officers. The program also gives Explorers the leadership skills and self-discipline needed to become successful community leaders.
